Selecting From Menus

Menus provide access to all functions and features in Contract Collector. Everything you do in Contract Collector begins with a selection from the MENU BAR (see right), which appears first whenever you start the program.

There are seven items in the MENU BAR. You select these items, called MENU PADS, in order to view the corresponding menus. The menus are displayed below the MENU BAR after you select a MENU PAD.

To select a MENU PAD, position the mouse pointer over the name and click the left button. The MENU PAD is highlighted and the menu is displayed. You can then select any of the MENU OPTIONS that make up the menu by pointing and clicking with the mouse.

Alternately, you can click and hold the mouse button over a MENU PAD and then drag the mouse down over the MENU OPTIONS. As you drag, the MENU OPTIONS are highlighted one by one. When you release the mouse button, the currently highlighted MENU OPTION is selected.

For a particular user, one or more of the MENU PADS may not appear in the MENU BAR. Also, some of the MENU OPTIONS in a menu may be dimmed, so that lettering in the name has less contrast than other options. Dimmed options have been disabled so that they cannot be selected. Other items may be preceded with a ® symbol (for READ ONLY), which indicates that the item can be viewed but not edited. The system manager controls which user has access to which menus and menu options.

To select from the MENU BAR using the keyboard, press the ALT key, which highlights the first item, FILE. Move the highlight from one MENU PAD to the next by pressing the RIGHT ARROW or LEFT ARROW keys. Once the desired MENU PAD is highlighted, press either the ENTER or DOWN ARROW key to display the menu

Alternately, after pressing ALT to highlight the FILE MENU PAD, you can type the underlined letter in any of the MENU PAD names. This highlights the MENU PAD and displays the menu at the same time.

When a menu is first displayed, the first MENU OPTION is highlighted. If you want to select the first option, just press ENTER. Otherwise, use the DOWN ARROW or UP ARROW keys to move the highlight from one item to the next. Then, when the MENU OPTION you want is highlighted, press ENTER or SPACE to select it.

An even quicker method for highlighting a MENU OPTION using the keyboard is to type the first letter in the name of the option. This moves the highlight directly to the first option beginning with that letter. To highlight a different MENU OPTION that begins with the same letter, just type the same letter repeatedly until the option you want is highlighted. Then press ENTER or SPACE to select it.
